When we were younger, we wanted it – especially as teenagers who thought we knew EVERYTHING! Years later, who knew we’d still be searching for freedom, as we got older.
For years I looked for freedom in all the wrong places. I thought the answers to my problems were found in this world. A man to love me, money to sustain me, and the list goes on…
There are people who think that the answer to their problems are somewhere in this world. They are earnestly seeking freedom, but they don’t know who set them free. They are trying to find a cure, but they don’t know who their healer is.
JESUS WILL SET YOU FREE!
If that’s You… if You feel like You’ve been shackled for so long… I pray that You are set FREE with the truth today!
The first things we have to acknowledge are some popular lies that the devil will feed You:
- Have casual sex w/ whoever You want; it’s Your body – be free!
- Chase money; if You don’t You’ll be broke, unhappy, and did I mention broke – be free!
- Believe in whatever & whoever You want – be free!
AND THE BIGGEST LIE OF THEM ALL
- Don’t live for Christ! You won’t have fun. You will have to follow rules – be free!
I used to believe ALL of those lies from the devil, because living life to please my flesh was fun.
But was it really fun?
- Sex was enjoyable, but being treated like a piece of meat was not. I wanted love, but I settled for sex, because it “freed” me, momentarily. It made me feel worthy, but afterwards I’d settle for guys that DOGGED me. That was not fun, nor freeing.
- Money! Chasing money put me in binds more than not having money did. It was not fun hustling hard for a paycheck, and having that as my motivation. That’s definitely not freedom. Money became my master – doesn’t sound like there’s much freedom in that.
- Believing so many different things didn’t make me feel free, either. I was just straight up confused and unstable in ALL of my ways.
- Lastly, I wouldn’t give my life to God because I knew I couldn’t follow His rules. I didn’t think there was much freedom in a set of rules! I made the same mistake a lot of people are making today.
IF WE PUT SO MUCH POWER IN RULES, WHAT IS LEFT TO EXALT JESUS AND WHAT HE DID?
The enemy has deceived us!
John 3:16-17 (ERV) says:
“Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world. He did not send him to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.”
Does that sound like a God who holds us in bondage? God loves us so much that he sent His son, Jesus, to die so that we could be free – so that we wouldn’t have to die for sin.
Understand that God acknowledged the fact that You and I could not keep the law (rules). That is why He sent Jesus!
“For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son], so that the [righteous and just] requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not live our lives in the ways of the flesh [guided by worldliness and our sinful nature], but [live our lives] in the ways of the Spirit [guided by His power].” – Romans 8:3-4 (AMP)
So when the enemy tries to tell You about the rules that You can’t keep, You tell Him about what the blood of Jesus is still doing to this day; setting You free from the bondage of sin, rules AND religion.
It’s like this:
You can follow all the rules in the Bible and doctrine in church, but still be lacking a REAL relationship with Jesus.
OR
You can follow JESUS, and He can change You. He can free You from the sin that easily ensnares You so that You begin to live like Him. You begin to live with His strength to overcome! He CAN renew Your mind (Romans 12:2).
And maybe You’re thinking, “Well, it’s not the sin. It’s my situation with my boyfriend. It’s my job. It’s my…” as Your reason for not obtaining peace and freedom.
Just like a relationship with Jesus causes joy, peace, FREEDOM etc. A life pleasing the flesh has consequences too. Having a boyfriend isn’t a sin, but is God in the center of that relationship? Is that man God’s best for You? Maybe that’s why things have been hard. Having a job isn’t a sin either, but what was Your motivation to work there? Did You take that job only because of the money?
Understand, a life submitted to money yields the characteristics of a paper idol; weak, one-dimensional, and unpredictable.
Isn’t it funny how the world tells us to have the biggest and the best, and even when we feel like we’ve attained that for ourselves we can still feel so EMPTY?
And then there’s Jesus who says lose ALL of that for ME and You will have LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, GENTLENESS, SELF-CONTROL, & ETERNITY! (Matt. 10:39 & Galatians 5:22-23)
I don’t know about You, but when I found all of that out I started to evaluate the word freedom; realizing it’s found in Jesus Christ and not in all the lies the enemy tried to tell me.
So start here:
If You speak Romans 10:9-10 over Your life – BELIEVING IT – the Holy Spirit will come & guide you on this journey. And “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17 (ERV)
Surely if You choose Jesus You will have TRUE freedom! The Bible doesn’t say, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed,” for nothing!
(John 8:36 NIV)
I’m praying for You! If You have any specific prayer requests feel free to contact me and I will be in touch. God loves You and so do I!

I appreciate your transparency! This makes me think of the verse in Galatians 2, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” There is such a sense of relief and freedom when you let Jesus take the reigns (Or the wheel lol?). We don’t have to search for material things or lukewarm people to fulfill us. Living for God isn’t restrictive or boring when you know that his plans are to give you a better purpose than you could imagine.
